Our Team

Christy Zamani
Executive Director
A graduate and former Student Body President of California State University Long Beach, Christy Zamani has served as Day One Executive Director since 2007. Christy brings over 15 years of hands on experience in public policy, community health and youth leadership development to Day One. A Pasadena resident, Christy also is a Board Member for Leadership Pasadena and a member of Vision 20/20, City Conversations and the Asset Development Network. 
Carolina Gazzolo Clark
Director of Community Prevention
Carolina joined Day One in 2008 when she was inspired to make a greater impact in her community. Carolina comes to Day One with experience in the for-profit world having worked in the music and fashion industries with platinum selling music artists and national department stores. She takes her knowledge and expertise in pop culture and branding along with her skills in strategic planning and project management to oversee and develop innovative programs that inspire youth, families, and community partners to advocate for positive change. Carolina graduated with a A.S. in Fashion Merchandising from Johnson and Wales University, B.S. in Business Management from Rhode Island College, and studied a year abroad at the London School of Economics.

Wesley Reutimann
Director of Environmental Prevention
A graduate of San Marino High School, Williams College, and the University of Basel (Switzerland), Wesley has a decade of experience in the non-profit, government and education sector. Prior to (re)joining the team at Day One, Wesley worked as a secondary school educator and Policy Liaison for the LA County Department of Public Health's Project TRUST (Tobacco Reduction Using Effective Strategies and Teamwork). In his free time he enjoys exploring the local mountains by bike, serving on the Boards of the Downtown Pasadena Neighborhood Association, the Pasadena Athletic Association, and BikeSGV, as well as raising two rescue cats, Bert and Gigi.  
Katy Kashani
Health Policy Liaison
Katy Kashani is the tobacco health policy liason working in the cities of San Gabriel and Sierra Madre.  Prior to working at DayOne, Katy worked at various public health organizations in the fields of women's health, alcohol and tobacco education, and public health research.  She is a recent graduate of the University of Southern California's Masters in Public Health program.  

Luis Gutierrez
Regional Prevention Policy Coordinator
Luis is passionate about developing solutions to build resilient communities. Having worked with multiple nonprofits prior to joining Day One, Luis has directed education programs for low-income children, educated communities about issues related to child abuse, and has helped independent, Latino filmmakers break into the world of documentaries. In his spare time, Luis loves to play basketball and experience new cultures through food. Luis holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University in Sociology and Spanish Literature and a Master of Science in Public Administration from California State University, Los Angeles. 
Nicole Bernard
Assistant Health Policy Liaison
 Nicole Bernard is a former Youth Advocate President (2009-2010). She has served on the California Youth Advocacy Network's (CYAN) national youth board (2009-2012), and received ABC7's Cool Kid Award (Oct. 2009).  She has been very involved in her community and speared-headed Flintridge Center's "BORED?! campaign. Nicole's long-term goals is to receiver her Masters in Public Health (MPH) and open her own non-profit to help those who have had the same struggles as herself.


Adriana Pinedo
Health Policy Coordinator
A Pomona native and Cal Poly Pomona graduate, Adriana brings positive energy and experience beyond her years to the Day One team. She has been civically engaged since High School, representing her District on the City of Pomona's Youth Advisory Council. Adriana is a huge believer that youth voice matters, having seen its effect firsthand. She looks forward to working with Pasadena’s youth and helping them see how powerful their voices are as well.
Johnny Jaime
Health Policy Coordinator 
An Anaheim native and graduate of Buena Park High School and San Diego State University (B.A. Sociology), Johnny brings his passion for youth development and healthy nutrition to the team.  In his free time Johnny is active with the Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Inc. (Motto "Opportunity for Wisdom, Wisdom for Culture") and is a big Angels baseball fan. His passion for community health work come from a desire to help others: "I will never forget where I came from, and will aim to give others the same opportunity I had."
Daniel Fong
Assistant Health Policy Liaison
Daniel is a former Day One Youth Advocate and graduate of John Marshall High School (Class of 2010) in Pasadena. Currently a student at Pasadena City College, Daniel has been with Day One since 2008. He appreciates the opportunity to learn from Day One's amazing team every time he comes to the office. In particular, he has enjoyed improving his public speaking skills, understanding of local government, and connections with community members and leaders.  Long-term Daniel's goal is to become an anesthesiologist and open his own firm.
Bryan Zaragoza
Assistant Health Policy Liaison 
A graduate of Pasadena High School and Day One's Youth Advocate program, Bryan Zaragoza currently is working towards a degree in Public Health at California State University Northridge. Bryan has been interested in helping his community ever since he joined Day One as a Youth Advocate 5 years ago. According to Bryan, "Day One opened my eyes to the needs of Pasadena." He is excited to now have the opportunity to give back to as part of the staff team.
Valentino
Security
Picture
Day One's mascot and head of security, Valentino (aka "Tino") has been a fixture at Day One since 2007. When he's not protecting Day One's staff, Youth Advocates, and grounds, Tino enjoys chasing balls and postal workers, as well as howling to the sounds of passing first-response vehicles.
